I’m Sarah, and I live in a small village in the South West of England. I work in the city of Bristol, five days a week, in an office. In my spare time I look after my house, my husband, and my two cats. I enjoy reading, watching films, music, going to church, and spending time with my friends.
I’ve always had an interest in food, but I really became focused on it following a key realization a few years ago that my food was making me fat … consequently I lost my excess weight and now maintain a healthy weight for my height. However, my body shape (short, pear-shaped) means its easy for me to put weight on again, and also my enjoyment of food often overcomes my natural point of fullness! So I have to watch what I eat carefully, and because I know how easily I can slip into bad habits again, I’m interested in eating healthily, and cooking healthy food. I want to improve my cooking skills, and make sure I’m eating food that is not only healthy, but enjoyable, although I do believe that any food in moderation is fine. However, sometimes its difficult to keep up with all these good intentions, with the busy life I lead.
So, to help me, this blog is an exploration of my relationship with food, and the learning process of improving my diet, enjoying healthy foods, and enhancing my cooking skills, and trying to fit it round my everyday life. Its not always easy to do a home cooked meal at the end of a busy day, or prepare a healthy packed lunch at night when you’re tired, or to think up healthy snacks to eat, on a constant daily basis. I’m hoping that my ideas and thoughts will help other people like me who have the same goal of enjoying food and home cooking as part of an ongoing healthy lifestyle.
